You can find a link called 4-H and FFA Online Entries here: http://www.statefair.org/fair/competitions/index.asp. Families will find a link to the State Fair Livestock entry website, a PDF with entry instructions and a YouTube video with entry instructions. 4-H and FFA exhibitors and their families are responsible for submitting all livestock entries online this year. This includes:

• 4H and FFA Livestock entries

• 4H Companion Animal entries

• 4H Dog entries

• 4H Dog Skillathon entries

• 4H and FFA Premier Exhibitor entries

Registration opens on July 1. All livestock entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Central Time on August 10, 2013. A credit or debit card is required to submit entries. 4-H Static Exhibit Registration will continue to be entered by the local Extension Office staff.

 4-H Fair Schedule & Information

The 2013 Cherry County 4-H Fair schedule is available at http://cherry.unl.edu/cherrycounty4h. All fair entry forms can be found there as well. All entries are due to the Cherry County Extension Office on or before July 24. Entries forms are available on our website or you may call the Office for a hard copy.

 Help Needed!

Youth 12 and older are needed to help run the Commodity Carnival during Thursday and Friday of fair week. This is a great way to learn new things and teach others about agriculture. If you can spare an hour or two and would like to help, call Ben at 402-376-1850 or email benshelbourn@outlook.com.

 Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance is required for all 4-Hers that exhibit animals, including poultry and rabbits.   Members must have completed the training to be eligible to exhibit at the county fair. 4-Hers that did not attend the QA training at the livestock judging contest on June 25 can complete their Livestock Quality Assurance requirement online.  4-Her’s must complete three modules and present their three certificates to the Extension Office prior to entry day on July 24. For more information about registering and using the online system, go to http://4h.unl.edu/qualityassurance.  Password is Nebraska. Another option for Intermediate and Seniors is to “test out” at the Extension Office.

2013 Dog, Cat & Pet Exhibitors

If you plan to show cats, dogs or other small animals, you need to read all the information in the 2013 Cherry County Fair Premium book on pages 77-83.  Proof of vaccination must be attached to the Companion Animal entry form which is due to the Extension Office on July 24.  Only those animals listed on page 82-83 are eligible to be shown at County Fair.  The Posters class may include entries covering any companion animal (including reptiles, companion birds or others listed.)  However, a poster should not display information about an animal which the exhibitor is actually showing at County Fair.

Clover Kid Small Animal Show & Tell

A Clover Kid Small Animal Show and Tell will be held with the Companion Animal Show on August 8.  This is an opportunity for our young 4-H’ers to “show” their pets in a non-competitive setting.  Dogs and cats must be on a leash.  Submit the Companion Animal Entry Form by July 24 to participate.  Please refer to page 97 of the 2013 4-H Premium Book for vaccination, kinds of pets, and other requirements.

 Team Fitting/Salemanship Contest

The Team Fitting/Salemanship Contest is August 9 at 5:00 pm CT.  Call the Office to sign up for this contest by July 24. Please make sure to arrange and have names for your team before the deadline. No additional teams can be added after the entries are received.

 Static Exhibits

Static Exhibits are those entries that are displayed in the Exhibit Hall, such as photography, food, woodworking, etc. that are judged with the interview judging process.  (The 4-Her must be present to be interviewed by the judge about his/her project exhibit.)  4-Hers have the option of pre-entering items on the entry form found at http://cherry.unl.edu/cherrycounty4h, by submitting it to the Extension Office by the deadline of July 24.  This will make your check-in time for Interview Judging shorter, as the entry tag cards will already be printed and waiting for you.  If you prefer, as in the past, you may bring the properly completed form with your exhibits when you come to Interview Judging.  Your entries will then be entered into the computer and your entry tags will be printed at that time.

 Clover Kid County Fair

A Clover Kid can submit two entries from each of the project areas he/she is enrolled in (maximum of 3 project areas).   See additional above information regarding Static Exhibits.  Clover Kids do participate in Interview Judging.

 4-H Dress Codes

Remember to refer to the 2013 4-H Premium Book for proper dress codes for County Fair 4-H Activities.  The 4-H Council will provide the official 4-H T-shirts to you for $3.00 each.  Stop by the Extension Office to pick up your T-shirt before Fair.  We have a limited selection of white long-sleeved shirts suitable for horse shows.  If you need a white shirt for horse shows, stop by the Office to see if we have your size.  The white shirts have been donated for that purpose and there is no charge.

 Reminder

This newsletter is NOT the policy book for County Fair and other county contests!  Please refer to your 4-H Premium Book for specific guidelines.  Take time to read over the 2013 4-H Premium Book, specifically in the area(s) you will be entering projects.  Call the Extension Office if you have any questions regarding the policies written in the -4-H Premium Book.
