Last minute Cherry County Fair Reminders!

 Livestock Weigh-In & Check- In

Please note the change in the schedule!

Market Swine will be weighed and checked in on Thursday, August 8, from 10:00 – 11:00. The only place for hogs to be unloaded will be at the North West door of the Wash Barn, where the hog chute will be set up.  The Livestock Committee realizes this causes congestion unloading, and you have to wait in line, but this is the best procedure for getting the hogs weighed.  They appreciate your cooperation.

Yearling Breeding Heifers, Cow/Calf Pairs, Market Beef, Sheep, Dairy and Goats will be weighed- in or checked in from 11:00 to 12:00. Be sure you know the weight guidelines listed in the 2013 Cherry County 4-H Fair Premium Book.  Minimum and maximum weights will be enforced.  There will be absolutely no reweighing at check-in.

Feeder Calves, Breeding Heifer Calves and FFA Bulls check in or weigh in from 7:00-8:00 AM on Saturday, August 18.

 Livestock Sale

The Livestock Committee needs help in hauling critters to Valentine Locker and the sale barn after the Livestock Sale.  If your family is willing to haul livestock to Valentine Locker, please contact Craig O’Kief at 402-376-4133.

All 4-Hers that have animals going through the sale need to turn in the Ethics Affidavit & Statement of Disclosure at check-in/weigh-in.  This is to ensure that you are a responsible food producer and that your animals have not received any non-approved drugs and that approved drugs are not within any withdrawal time relative to administration.

Remember that the Livestock Sale Clerk cannot issue a check from the Livestock Sale until all Livestock Sale payments have been received from the buyers.  Thus, it may take about four to five weeks for all accounting procedures to be completed and payments to be dispersed to the 4-Hers.  Plan your financial arrangements accordingly.

Baking Project Tip

When baking cookies, cakes or other goodies for the Cherry County Fair, bake double and freeze half of your project so if you qualify for State Fair you will have fresh goodies!

Companion Animal and Dog Shows & Clover Kid Show & Tell

Vaccination records were to be turned in with the 4-H entry forms on July 24. If your records were not turned in, you have until Tuesday, August 6, to get them to the Extension Office. If your records are not turned in, you will not be allowed to show. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Dress Code

Refer to the 2013 4-H Premium Book for proper dress codes for County Fair 4-H Activities. The 4-H Council will provide the official 4-H T-shirts to you for $3.00 each. Stop by the Extension Office to pick up your NEW T-shirt before Fair. We have a limited selection of white shirts suitable for horse shows. If you need a white shirt for horse shows, stop by the Office to see if we have your size. The white shirts have been donated for that purpose and there is no charge.

State Fair Information

Nebraska State Fair is August 23 – September 2.  If your exhibit hall items have been selected to go on to State Fair, there will be a special ribbon placed on them.  When you pick your exhibits from the Cherry County Fair on Sunday, August 11, there will be an envelope with additional information included with your exhibit.  Therefore, it is very important that you pick up your exhibit(s) on Sunday or make arrangements to have them picked up or you will miss the opportunity to have your project exhibited at State Fair.  Review labeling and mounting requirements in the 2013 Premium Book, and get your item ready to travel safely.  All items selected for State Fair must be returned to the Office no later than 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 20.
