Shoot Out in the Sandhills

A one box trap shoot will be held on Sunday, September 8, at the Cody Gun Club in Cody. This event is co-sponsored by Valentine Youth Planning Commission, BKR and Cherry County Extension. Registration begins at 12:30 MT with the shoot beginning at 1:00 MT. Please present Hunter Safety Card at check-in. Age Divisions are 12-15, 16-18 and Adult. Dennis Bauer, BKR Extension Educator, will provide a mini gun safety course for 8-11 year olds and first time shooters. 8-11 year olds and first time shooters only will get 1 free round. Parent/Guardian must sign a waiver for 8 to 11 year olds to participate. Cost is $30 for adults and $25 for youth. Shells, clays and ear protection will be provided with entry. Bring your own eye protection. No personal loads. 12 and 20 gauge guns only. Prizes will be awarded to the top 2 shooters in each division. Prize sponsors include McBride Sporting Goods, Berry Creek Gun & Pawn and Sweezey’s Outdoor and Bomgaars. Shooters may get in the Team Jackpot by adding $10 per shooter. There will be a 40-30-20 split to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. Exhibitions will follow tournament for $15 per box. Nebraska Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop to be Held at Chambers

A Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop is scheduled for October 19-20 at the Holt County Fairgrounds in Chambers. Registration deadline is October 9th. Adult volunteers and junior leaders can choose one of six disciplines to become certified. Hunting Skills, Archery, Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloading and Pistol will be offered. Participants will learn under expert instruction from members of the Nebraska State 4-H Shooting Sports Team and National instructors. The registration fee is $90 per person for initial certification and $80 per person that are adding an additional discipline. This fee includes meals, supplies and program materials. Participants must make their own lodging arrangements. Registration on Saturday runs from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. The Cherry County 4-H Council is offering scholarships to Cherry County leaders wishing to become certified.
