Sewing For Fun

A Sewing For Fun project session with Jody Wilson and Michelle Garwood will be June 3rd beginning at 6:30 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church.  This session begins our sewing projects for fair. 

Supplies:

Book and instructions for Sewing For Fun 

Fabric and supplies needed to make whichever project(s) you decide

Sewing machine and thread coordinating with fabric

If you are making a project that uses cotton fabric, it must be pre-washed and ironed before June 3rd.

 

2014 Clover Kid Days

Clover Kids will have a chance to experience much of the Clover Kid curriculum and activities in six different sessions throughout the summer. Cost for each session is $5. Please sign up by the dates listed in the schedule so we can be sure to have enough supplies for everyone. RSVP for each session by calling the Cherry County Extension Office at 402-376-1850 or by emailing Ben Shelbourn at benshelbourn@outlook.com. Jr. Leaders are needed to help with all of the sessions. If interested in assisting please contact Ben. Weather permitting, many activities will be outdoors so please use or send your child with sunscreen and bug spray.

Food Project Days

A special line-up of food and nutrition workshops are being held in Nenzel and Valentine. Beginning levels will cover the projects Six Easy Bites and Tasty Tidbits. Participants will learn about My Pyramid, find out about sports nutrition, discover the basics of measuring and microwaving, planning a menu and making a main dish.

Intermediate and advanced levels will cover You’re the Chef, Foodworks and Fast Foods projects. Participants will learn how to alter recipes to make them more nutritious, sports nutrition, learn how to cook and plan nutritious meals using My Pyramid and learn how to eat nutritiously on a budget. Alert us to any food requirements or allergies you have when registering. Cost for each session is $5. RSVP by calling the Office at 402-376-1850 or emailing benshelbourn@outlook.com.

 Special Foods Contest

We had so much fun last year that we are once again offering the Special Foods event! In the Special Foods contest each participant will have 90 minutes to prepare a main dish for a meal and complete a place setting. During the preparation time the judge will observe and score on components including: measuring methods, presentation of finished place setting, knowledge of nutrients and personal diet needs. This contest will be held in conjunction with Clothing Day on July 15.

We will be hosting a workshop that will prepare you for this event. During the workshop you will learn: proper measuring, place settings, menu planning, nutritional requirements and proper attire for the event, as well as answer any questions that 4-Hers or parents may have. Family & Consumer Sciences Skill Days

FCS Committee members Jody Wilson, Michelle Garwood and Liz Ravenscroft will be hosting Family & Consumer Sciences Skill Days on June 26th and 27th at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. Get your sewing projects finished with plenty of time to spare before the Clothing Day and Fashion Show! Learn to cook a nutritious lunch and get prepared for the Special Foods contest! Learn how to coordinate your outfits and model like a pro! Fee for the two-day event is $10 and registration is due by June 23. Call the Extension Office at 402-376-1850 or email jdexter3@unl.edu to sign up. Please let us know of any food allergies when registering. Bring your own water bottle and snacks as needed. Bring your own sewing machine and sewing kit. Parent volunteers are NEEDED, even if you don’t know how to sew! Call Michelle Garwood if you have any questions at 402-389-1655.
