Sewing Club Starts Soon
The Cherry County 4-H Sewing Club led by Jody Wilson and Michelle Garwood will resume on Tuesday, September 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Savior Church in Valentine. Meetings will be the third Tuesday of the month. This year, the club will add community service projects, such as sewing lap quilts for the elderly, curtains for the new dog shelter and more! Another goal this year is to explore all the different textile opportunities in 4-H from Decorate Your Duds, to quilting, to shopping, to knitting and crochet. The first semester will entail service and project exploration and after Christmas vacation, 4-Hers will choose what they want to focus on for fair projects. Plans are also in the works to have club meetings in Nenzel every other month. Club members will be expected to attend meetings every month, not just the ones in their own town. Transportation help will be available. Please contact the Extension Office by September 10 if you plan to participate this year, especially if you live in Western Cherry County. For more information, contact Jody Wilson at 402-322-1822 or Michelle at 402-389-1655.
The Nebraska Career Portfolio is the annual record-keeping system used by Nebraska 4-H youth. It is a composite of all 4-H and non 4-H projects/activities throughout an individual’s 4-H career. The Career Portfolio is required for Cherry Co. youth to be eligible for many county and state awards. Nebraska will select youth to represent the state at the National 4-H Youth Congress based on achievements outlined in the Career Portfolio. Information is available at the Extension Office about forms, requirements, awards, etc. If you need help in completing your Career Portfolio, call Jody at the Extension Office. Appointments can be made to assist your club or small group with your Career Portfolio. The portfolios are due to the Extension Office by October 13.
