Cooking with Liz Workshop

A foods and nutrition workshop will be held on June 3rd at the Nenzel Community Hall from 9:00 to 2:00, MT. 4-H Leader, Liz Ravenscroft will be leading lessons covering the projects Six Easy Bites, Tasty Tidbits and You’re the Chef.

4-Hers ages 7 and older are welcome to attend. Participants will learn the basics of measuring, menu planning, My Pyramid, food safety and eating nutritiously on a budget. 4-Hers will be introduced to and learn about the Special Foods contest that is held in July. Everyone will take part in preparing and get to enjoy the tasty meal.

Pre-register with the Cherry County Extension Office no later than May 27th. Cost of this workshop is $10. Carpooling from Valentine will be available. Transportation details will be provided upon registering. Volunteers are welcome!

A Robotics Day Camp will be held on June 4, 2015 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds from 9 AM to 4 PM.

This camp will introduce youth and volunteers to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. It is designed for youth in grades 4-8, but older youth are welcome to attend. During this day camp youth will:

  •     Design, build and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
  •     Apply real-world math and science concepts
  •     Research challenges facing today’s scientists
  •     Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills

Adult volunteers are encouraged to attend and learn side-by-side with the 4-Hers. It will give the adults an introduction to First Lego League and they will have the knowledge base to support a long term program. No technical skills required! Attendance at this day camp will help Cherry County 4-H determine long-term programming and interest in developing an area First Lego League team.

Cost of the camp is $10 per 4-H member and $15 for non 4-H members. Pre-registration and payment is required by May 28th to the Cherry County Extension Office. Make checks payable to the Cherry County 4-H Council. Please bring a sack lunch. Snacks will be provided.

Horse Clinic June 5

The Cherry County 4-H Horse Committee will host a clinic on June 5 starting at 6:30 P.M at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. Participants will focus on the Ranch Horse Pleasure class and practice for the District Horse Show.

A 4-H Dog Clinic will be held on Saturday, June 6, at the Valentine City Park from 10:00 to 2:00, CT.

Leah Miller, long time 4-H Dog judge, will work with the 4-Hers and their dogs on obedience, showmanship and agility. She will also provide valuable training tips and techniques and cover proper equipment. Dr. Michelle Huddle and Katie Froning from Advanced Pet Care Clinic will present on vaccinations, de-worming and proper grooming. All dogs must be current on vaccinations before attending.
