The purpose of the Special Foods Contest is to

  • Demonstrate Healthy Decision Making – through nutrition, menu planning, food preparation and food safety
  • Apply Healthy Living knowledge and skills
  • Showcase skills

4-Hers 8 to 18 are eligible to participate and must be enrolled in a Foods and Nutrition project to compete. 4-Hers are challenged to prepare a main dish for a meal in 90 minutes, complete a place setting and interview with the judge. During the preparation time the judge will observe and score on components including: measuring methods, presentation of finished place setting, knowledge of nutrients and personal diet needs. This contest will be held the morning of July 14. Age divisions include Junior, Intermediate and Senior. For more information, contact the Extension Office. Entry forms are available at or at the Extension Office and are due July 6. Exact starting times will depend upon the number of entries. An agenda with detailed information will be sent to 4-Hers after entries are received.
