Make plans to participate in the Special Foods Contest.

 The purpose of the Special Foods Contest is to

  • Demonstrate Healthy Decision Making – through nutrition, menu planning, food preparation and food safety
  • Apply Healthy Living knowledge and skills
  • Showcase skills and enhance organizational and planning skills


4-Hers 8 to 18 are eligible to participate and must be enrolled in any Foods and Nutrition project to compete. 4-Hers are challenged to prepare a main dish for a meal in 90 minutes, complete a place setting and interview with the judge.

During the preparation time the judge will observe and score on components including: measuring methods, presentation of finished place setting, knowledge of nutrients and personal diet needs and food safety. This contest will be held on July 7 at the Catholic Parish Hall. Age divisions include Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

For more information, contact the Extension Office.  Entry forms will be available at or at the Extension Office and are due July 1.  Exact starting times will depend upon the number of entries. An agenda with detailed information will be sent to 4-Hers after entries are received.
