Summer seems to be flying by so I wanted to be sure to remind 4-Hers of a few things prior to the rush of County Fair and pre-fair activities.

  • Special Foods Contest is July 6 with entries due June 30. The Special Foods handbook and entry forms can be found under Cherry County Fair Events Resources at http://extension.unl.edu/statewide/cherry/educational-programs/cherry-county-4-h/ or stop by the Extension Office for a hard copy.
  • Clothing Day is July 11 with entries due June 30. Project judging on Clothing Day includes: Knitting, Crocheting, Needle Arts, Quilt Quest, Quilts of Valor, Shopping in Style, STEAM Clothing I: Fundamentals, STEAM Clothing II: Simply Sewing, STEAM Clothing III: A Stitch Further, Tailoring, STEAM Clothing: Beyond the Needle and Clover Kid sewing projects.  Please remember, this is the only judging for these projects. 4-H members cannot bring them to the Exhibit Hall entry day during fair, as there are no 4-H clothing judges available that day. July 11 is also the day of the Fashion Show Judging. Entry forms can be found under Cherry County Fair Events Resources at http://extension.unl.edu/statewide/cherry/educational-programs/cherry-county-4-h/ or stop by the Extension Office for a hard copy. The public Fashion Show will be held during County Fair on Friday, August 11 at 5:30 PM at the Fairgrounds.
  • Look at project requirements in the Fairbook. Pay special attention to labeling requirements and any additional information that may be needed. The Fairbook can be found under Cherry County Fair Events Resources at http://extension.unl.edu/statewide/cherry/educational-programs/cherry-county-4-h/ or stop by the Extension Office for a hard copy.
  • All other 4-H fair entries are due Monday, July 24. Entries may be mailed, dropped off at the Extension Office, emailed to jdexter3@unl.edu faxed to 402-376-2867. We have a drop box (mailbox) near the front steps of the building if you cannot get here during business hours. Entries for everything expect what goes to the Exhibit Hall is pre-entered including:  Shooting Sports, Horse, Dog, Beef, Sheep, Swine, Companion Animals, Poultry, Rabbit, Clover Kid Small Animals, Bucket Calves, Goats and Dairy. Include Team Fitting on the Beef entry form. Static exhibits may be pre-entered if you would like to have entry tags waiting for you on entry day of the fair. It is not required, but it will speed up check-in. If not pre-entering, bring a filled out entry form to the Exhibit Hall on entry day.
  • The $10 late fee will apply to all entries not received by July 24. Late entries will not be accepted after July 26.
