Foods and nutrition workshops will be held on June 4 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds and June 13 at the Nenzel Community Hall. 4-H Leader, Liz Ravenscroft, will be leading lessons covering the new foods curriculum, 4-H Cooking 101, 201, 301, 401 and food preservation.

June 4 – for 4-Hers 7 and up. This is for participants enrolled in 4-H Cooking 101, 201 and 301. The day will begin at 8:30 for 4-Hers in the 201 and 301 levels. Beginning 4-Hers in level 101 should arrive at 10:00.

4-Hers will learn the basics of measuring, menu planning, My Plate and food safety. 4-Hers will be introduced to, and learn about, the Special Foods contest that will be held July 2. Everyone will take part in preparing and get to enjoy a tasty meal. The workshop will conclude by 1:00 to allow everyone to participate in the Campfire Cooking workshop that is being held in the Valentine City Park at 2:00 (see earlier Alert).

Register by May 31 by calling the Extension Office at 402-376-1850. Cost of the workshop is $10 payable to the Cherry County 4-H Council.

June 13 – for older 4-Hers. This is for 4-Hers enrolled in 4-H Cooking 301, 401 and Food Preservation. In addition to reinforcing the basics, participants will be learning new skills. This workshop will focus on pastry and food preservation. 4-Hers will be introduced, to and learn about, the Special Foods contest that will be held July 2.

Participants will need to bring a sack lunch. They will get to enjoy the tasty treats they make. However it will not be a meal.

Register by June 6 by calling the Extension Office at 402-376-1850. Cost of the workshop is $10 payable to the Cherry County 4-H Council.
